Telephone Number Prefix Changes
New 773 Prefix for Most
City of Peoria Government Telephone Numbers.
Effective September 1st, 1999, City of Peoria Government telephone
numbers which begin with the 412 prefix and end in a 7000 series number, (412-7xxx)
will change to a new prefix.
Those numbers will begin with 773 instead of 412.
For example: 412-7000 will become 773-7000.
Note that the last four digits remain the same.
Currently, these City of Peoria Government telephone numbers can
be reached with either the old or the new prefix. This will remain in effect
until October 4th, 1999 , when they will be placed on referral by US West. This means that
on October 4th and thereafter, anyone dialing a 7000 series number with the 412 prefix
will receive a recording that will give them the new number.
Important Information
There are some City of Peoria Government telephone numbers which begin with
412, but DO NOT end in a 7000 series number.
THESE NUMBERS WILL NOT CHANGE!
For example 412-5555 would stay the same.
Other City of Peoria Government telephone numbers which DO NOT begin with
412, WILL NOT CHANGE.
Important Troubleshooting Information
If you , or someone you know, are having difficulty reaching any
number using the new 773 prefix, please advise the person placing the call to do the
following:
If calling from a place of business, have the problem
referred to the Telecommunications Manager to make sure that the prefix is programmed into
their switch. If it is already programmed, the Telecommunications Manager will have to
contact their local telephone service provider. The local telephone service provider will
need the number they are calling from, and the number they are trying to reach
If calling from a residence, have the problem referred
to the local telephone service provider. The local telephone service provider will also
need the number they are calling from, and the number they are trying to reach.
