Volunteer Information
If you're interested in making a difference in your community while gaining a valuable experience, become a member of the Peoria Police Department's Volunteer Program.
With a philosophy of community oriented policing, the Department recognizes the contribution volunteers can make and encourages the involvement of volunteers at all levels and in all appropriate activities.
The mission of the Volunteer Program has two components. The Department will provide a rewarding experience to citizens with a desire to share their time and talents to better their community. Secondly, the program will provide, through the use of volunteers, quality and cost-effective delivery of services which further the mission of the Department to improve the quality of life in our city.
In 2007, 20 different volunteers contributed a total of 5,955 hours
of service to the Police Department and the citizens of Peoria. When calculated at entry-level salaries for the areas in which they work, these hours are equivalent to $104,519.00 in added value to the city.
In addition to their regular assignments, volunteers helped with a variety of special
community events and projects, including GAIN (Getting Involved in
Neighborhoods), vacation watches, keeping department vehicles fueled and cleaned, conducting department tours, assisting with public safety events and presentations, and participating as role players in department training, among other
assignments.

Citizen's
Police Academy
The Peoria Police Department Law
The Peoria Police Department continues with it’s
very popular Citizen’s Police Academy. During this
twelve-week course,
citizens learn how the various functions within the Police Department
operate. The instruction is comprehensive, and allows for hands-on
interaction for participants in many of the topics. Some of the topics
covered during this course include Gang Awareness, Narcotics Investigation, D.U.I. Investigation, Use of Force and the Firearms
Training Simulator.
The next police citizen’s academy session is scheduled for
September 9, 2008. The academy experience promises
to give participants an exciting “hands-on” behind
the scene look at the field of law enforcement.
Hosted in the new Public Safety Administration
Building located at 8351 W. Cinnabar Avenue, Peoria,
Arizona. This program will meet every Tuesday
evening between 6:30 and 9:30PM through December 9,
2008.
The purpose of the academy is to promote the
Community Oriented Policing philosophy through the
exchange of information between citizens and law
enforcement officials. Along the way, participants
will experience what it is like to gather evidence,
interview suspects and witnesses, book a prisoner
into jail, use a radar gun, and many other law
enforcement tasks. Participants will learn what it
takes to become a police officer, from the hiring
process to the police academy experience, from using
a firearms training simulator to executing a
high-risk vehicle stop.
Whether you are interested in law enforcement as a
career, or you want to learn more about your local
police department, or just want the experience of a
lifetime, the Peoria Police Department ‘s Citizen’s
Academy is for you!
To be eligible to participate in the academy you
must be at least 18 years of age and reside or work
