The use of items made from recycled materials is becoming increasingly important for sustainably-minded individuals. In this interactive class participants will learn about the wide variety of goods available today made from recycled materials. The first half of the class will be devoted to the use of recycled materials for inside the home. The second half of the class will be devoted to the use of recycle materials outside the home and in the landscape.
Compost Happens: Complete Guide to Backyard Composting

Did you know that approximately 21% of all municipal solid waste is food waste? In this interactive class participants will learn how to reduce the amount of food waste sent to the landfill by creating rich soil amendments. Peoria residents will receive a free food waste container for their kitchen.
Landscape Watering 101

Improper watering can lead to stress, disease, or even death of some plants, not to mention high water bills. In this interactive class Mike Buettner teaches participants how much water plants need, different types of irrigation systems, and how to set your irrigation controller for maximum efficiency.
Landscaping for Color

Need some color in your landscape? This course is designed to teach class participants which low water landscape plants work best for seasonal color splashes in a desert landscape.
Water Efficiency Inside the Home
John Smith – The Arizona Green Plumber
Learn how to reduce the amount of water consumption in your home from the first Green Certified Plumber in Arizona. Class participants will learn about high efficiency toilets, low flow showerheads and faucets, hot water recirculators, and many more new technologies that can reduce your water bill while conserving our most precious resource – water.
HOA Irrigation Management 101
Chris Husband – Liquid Technologies LLC
This course is geared specifically toward those individuals that oversee larger irrigation systems such as those of homeowners associations. Class participants will learn about the basic components involved in large irrigation installations, how to properly manage large volumes of irrigation water, what to look for in an irrigation maintenance contractor, and what new technologies are being implemented in the irrigation industry.
Sustainable Water Supplies: The Life Cycle of Urban Water

This NEW class is designed to explain where the City's water comes from, and how it is treated and distributed to our customers who simply turn on their taps. Then once it is washed or flushed down the drain, where does it go? Does it get back into the water supply? What about storm water, is it treated? Learn why there's a finite amount of water and how we can all be better stewards of its use and reuse.
Homeowner’s Tree Care Workshop

Learn the fundamentals of proper tree installation, initial care, growth, development and the benefit of trees for the homeowner and the community. At the completion of the class you will receive a free desert-adapted tree to take home.
Edible Landscapes & Design

More homeowners are replacing ornamental plants for those that have a dual function of beauty and food production. Learn about the history of edible landscapes, design concepts, and ideas for front yard and back yard landscapes using ornamental edible plants.
All classes are free and open to everyone...not just Peoria citizens. Classes are held between the hours of 5:30pm and 7:30pm each day and held at the City of Peoria Development and Community Services Building located at 9875 N. 85th Avenue, Peoria, AZ 85345.
