Did you know that the three arrows in the triangular recycling symbol stand for recycle, reuse and reduce? Besides participating in the city's curbside recycling program, here are some tips to help reduce your impact on the environment by re-using products and reducing consumption or use.

Reuse:

Many items can't be tossed in your recycle bin, but can be re-used.

  • Ask your dry-cleaner if they will re-use coat & shirt hangers - many will

  • Re-use plastic grocery sacks as lunch bags & for other simple storage tasks

  • Donate old magazines or surplus equipment to local libraries or non-profit organizations

Reduce:

Look for ways to reduce the number of products you use & toss in the garbage:

  • Use durable coffee mugs & dishes instead of Styrofoam or paper

  • Use cloth napkins & towels instead of paper

  • Take cloth bags with you to use at the grocery or drug store - especially when you're purchasing just a few items
