Get the Most from Curbside Recycling

To get the most out of Peoria’s curbside recycling program, follow these simple tips:

STICK TO THE SCHEDULE

You will still get two weekly pickups: your garbage will be collected once each week, and your recycling will be collected once each week. Check the information delivered with your recycling barrel to determine which of your collection days is for garbage and which is for recycling.

RECYCLABLES LOVE COMPANY

Toss all your recyclable material into the bin together - there’s no need to sort plastics from glass or cans from paper.

RINSE, DON’T WASH

Make sure jars & cans that contained food are empty. They don’t have to be washed, but use a rubber spatula or lightly rinse them to remove the remaining food.

NO BAGGING REQUIRED

Recyclables are sorted once they reach the processing facility, so don’t bag them - just toss everything loosely into the bin. Continue to bag and tie your trash, however, because doing so helps contain odors and reduces pests.
