The City of Peoria was established in the 1880’s when William J. Murphy’s vision of fertile farm lands fed by water from the Salt River became reality with the completion of the Arizona Canal in 1885.

History of the Peoria Fire Department.  In 1917, a large fire in the Peoria Business District burned down one of the most prominent Peoria businesses – Wilhelm Garage and Blacksmith shop and virtually wiped out the center of town.
