Title: Claims Coordinator

 FLSA Status: Exempt

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to coordinate insurance coverage’s and manage claims against the city.  This is accomplished by working with brokers, adjusting claims, collecting funds, managing the budget, reviewing and assigning values, reviewing insurance proposals, gathering information, visiting accident sites, and ensuring all certificates are accurate.  Other duties include participating on committees, verifying driving records, and approving or denying loss control grants.

Adjusts claims by investigating accidents and injuries, reviewing documentation, ensuring efficient processing, evaluating claims, collaborating with legal staff and departments, reviewing liabilities, recommending repairs, and reviewing liability hazards.

Manages agreements and certificates of insurance by reviewing agreements and contracts, contacting contract holders, and reviewing event coverage’s and requesting missing certifications.

Maintains reports and information by compiling expense reports, writing reports, verifying reserves, reviewing old claims, codes and current trends, preparing budget information, and submitting information for review.

Facilitates the procurement process by working with consultants and vendors, assisting with grant procurements, reviewing requests, preparing bid specifications, maintaining current values, evaluating proposals, and providing additional information.

Advises departments by participating on committees, discussing safety concerns, reviewing policies and procedures, reviewing upcoming events, and collaborating on event management.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

-Description of Minimum Job Requirements-

Formal Education

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two year associate's degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school.  Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

Experience

Over three years up to and including five years experience.

Supervision

Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others.

Decisions regarding implementation of policies may be made. Contact may involve support of controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive issues or important presentations.  Contacts may involve stressful, negative interactions with the public requiring high levels of tact and the ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions.

The employee normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies.  There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties.  Performance reviewed periodically.

Budget Responsibility

Position has moderate fiscal responsibility.  Makes recommendations toward fiscal decisions within the department. May be responsible for the billing, collection and/or accounting of funds.   May be responsible for the handling and balancing of cash.

Reading

Advanced - Ability to read literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents.  Ordinarily, such education is obtained in at the college level or above. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Math

Intermediate - Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Writing

Intermediate - Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.  Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
