Our five engine companies provide fire suppression and
Advanced Life Support (ALS)/Paramedic services, offering a
full range of pre-hospital medical and trauma care to the
citizens and visitors of Peoria. An engine company includes
four personnel; one Captain, one Engineer, and two
Firefighters. Two of these personnel are paramedics and two
are emergency medical technicians (EMTs).

Our ladder company provides fire suppression, forcible
entry, ventilation, extrication, and basic life support (BLS)
for emergency medical calls. The ladder company is also
staffed with four personnel including a Captain, Engineer
and two Firefighters, all of which are EMT's.
Automatic Aid
The Peoria Fire Department is part of a 20+ agency system in
which the fire departments are dispatched by a central
dispatch location (the Phoenix Fire Department). The system
is designed to assure that the closest fire unit is sent to
your emergency, no matter what municipality the fire
department is from. All of the engines in the system are
equipped with AVL (automatic vehicle locator) so the
dispatch center knows exactly where each unit is and can
send the closest available one.
ISO Rating
The Peoria Fire Department has been rated by the Insurance
Service Organization as a Fire Class Three community (a
class one is the highest and a class ten the lowest). The
department provides a save factor of 91.5 percent (this
represents the amount of property saved which was directly
exposed to the risk of fire). The average response time of
the Peoria Fire Department is four minutes and thirty-seven
seconds. This meets the National Fire Protection Association
recommendation of a response goal of five minutes or less.
Some rural locations within the city may experience delayed
response times due to the current roadways and station
locations.
