Peoria Fire Department Captain John Davirro Retires

September 2, 2008 – Peoria, AZ – Captain John Davirro retired on August 27, 2008.  John retires from the City of Peoria with a combined total of 32 years in the fire service and over 27 years of dedicated service to the Peoria Fire Department.  John began his career with the City on August 5, 1981 and successfully competed and promoted through the ranks from Firefighter to Captain serving as a Fire Captain for over 22 years.  When Peoria purchased its first aerial ladder in 1989, John found his home and has served on Peoria Fire’s Ladder Company since its inception.  John was one of the first Captains to be trained as a Technical Rescue Technician and has maintained his certification for over 16 years.  A few of John’s notable accomplishments throughout his career include serving as a Recruit Training Officer at the Phoenix Regional Training Academy and serving as an Adjunct Faculty Member at Glendale Community College teaching Firefighter I & II programs.  John, along with 3 other Peoria Firefighters founded and began the Peoria Fire Department Honor Guard that proudly and positively represents the Fire Department at events such as Memorial Services, Funerals, Ceremonial Functions, and Civic Functions. John was a charter member of Chapter 2925 which was the departments original union chapter associated with the International Association of Firefighters that later merged into Local Chapter 493.  On a personal note, John is a dedicated family man, sharing his life with wife Francine and their son Jacob.  John is looking forward to spending time with his family, traveling, hunting and fishing.  The Peoria Fire Department will be forever grateful to John Davirro for his dedication and assistance in building our department to what it is today.  John, the Peoria Fire Department wishes you much happiness in the next journey of your life, you will be truly missed.
