Peoria Police mourning the loss
of a co-worker and friend
Loses gallant fight with cancer
Sergeant Danna Freeman
March 19, 1965 – April 16, 2008
Peoria Police Sergeant Danna Freeman lost her battle with cancer
during the early morning hours of April 16.
Danna met her husband Doug, a Glendale Police Officer, while
they were both in the police academy. She began her career with
the Youngtown Police Department in 1991 where she served as both
an officer and detective. In December 1995 she became a member
of the Peoria Police Department family and enjoyed an extremely
successful career. She received numerous commendations and unit
citations, received the 2003 Elks Club Law and Order Award,
Officer of the Year in 2004 and Supervisor of the Year in 2007.
Danna was promoted to Sergeant on July 21, 2004 and was serving
as our Administrative Sergeant supervising our telephone
callback officers, Animal Control Officers and day shift Police
Service Officers. Throughout her battle with cancer Danna
presented a cheerful disposition, infectious smile and a bright,
positive outlook on life.
Danna is survived by husband Doug, son Douglas, parents Linda
and Daniel Eggers, sisters; Patricia Alexander, Danielle Achs
and Danette Miller and grandfather Fred Smith.
The Freeman family and members of the Peoria Police Department
will miss such a positive, energetic friend, peer, dedicated
public servant, mother and wife.
