When are City Council Meetings held?

The City Council meets in Regular Meetings on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers located at 8401 W. Monroe Street, Peoria. Study Session Meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 4:00 p.m. in the Pine Room in main City Hall, 8401 W. Monroe Street, Peoria. Additional Study Sessions and Special Council Meetings are held with no less than 24 hours prior to the meeting notice on an as needed basis. All Council Meetings are open to the Public and, time permitting, citizens may speak before the Council at the Regular Meetings under Call to the Public. Who are Peoria's Mayor and Council?

Legislative authority is vested in a six-member council and the mayor. In 1989, the city charter was amended to change the method of electing the council members from an at-large system to a district system. Peoria's six council districts are listed below, along with their respective elected representatives. The council members are elected for four-year terms on a staggered basis. The mayor is elected at-large for a two-year term, however commencing in 1999, the mayor's term will become four years pursuant to an amendment to the City Charter approved by voters on March 11, 1997.

Q- Can I attend a City Council Meeting?

A- With the exception of an Executive Session, all meetings of the City Council are open to the public.

Q- How can I find out what is on the City Council Agenda, and can I speak at a City Council meeting?

A- Time permitting, citizens may speak before the Council at any Regular City Council Meeting at the time the Mayor announces the A Call to the Public. Any citizen may speak during a Public Hearing
