Myth:
The City only wants to annex property to get increased revenues. |
|
Fact:
The City of Peoria does not “make money” by annexing unincorporated county
islands. While annexing these areas does bring additional state shared and
other revenues that are based
upon the additional population, these revenues do not offset the additional
costs incurred in providing City services to the annexed area. The City’s
motivation in annexing county islands is based on the desire to provide
efficient and effective services to people living within Peoria’s corporate
boundaries.
