Water
Quality Data
So
far you have learned a little more about where our water comes from
and how we get it from the source to your home. While we are
delivering it, the City of Peoria regularly monitors for a wide
variety of compounds in your drinking water in accordance with
federal and state laws and local water quality guidelines. The
tables and notes that appear on the following pages provide a
detailed chemical analysis of Peoria’s water supply for calendar
year 2001.
Arsenic
— Why Are We Talking About It? -
The
current federal and state maximum contaminant level (MCL) for
arsenic is 50 parts per billion. Keep in mind that one part per
billion (ppb) is equal to one penny in $10 million. In 2006, the
Environmental Protection Agency will lower the MCL for arsenic from
50 ppb to 10 ppb.
