Preserve & Conserve

Although the city has taken the necessary steps to assure our water supply, we should never forget what a precious resource water is, especially here in the desert. Day in and day out, everyone should do their part to conserve water wherever possible.

To help, the city’s Water Conservation Office and the Valley’s "Water, Use It Wisely" programs provide important information on how to lower summer water bills and conserve our water supplies.

Simple Ways to Save Water and Save Money Too!

  • On average, 70% of summer household water is used outdoors for watering lawns and gardens. Change to low water-use landscaping and set your timers to water at night (minimizing evaporation loss) to make a serious dent on your water bill.

  • Check your evaporative coolers for leaks and salt buildup before and after using them for the season.

  • An automatic dishwasher can use between 9-12 gallons of water per load—only run your dishwasher when it’s full or hand wash items when you can.

  • Fill a bowl with water to clean fruits and vegetables instead of letting the tap run.

  • Call the Water Conservation Office at (623) 773-7286 for free literature on converting to Xeriscape, season specific watering guidelines, and other ideas on how to reduce your water bill.
