The Peoria Police Department is officially recognized as the 442nd
internationally accredited police agency worldwide. The Peoria Police Department received its initial international
accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) on July 26, 1997.
Accreditation is a continual process; compliance with the standards is addressed daily and the Department is
required to participate in a re-accreditation assessment every three years. The Peoria Police Department has
subsequently undergone two successful re-accreditation processes in April 2000, and July 2003. The citizens of
Peoria can be assured that they are receiving the safest, most efficient, and professional law enforcement services
available.
