SAFETY TIPS

Shopping Tips: Always lock your vehicle and roll up your windows. Keep valuables or packages with you or place them in your trunk. Items such as cellular phones, lap top computers and handbags should be placed out of sight. Never leave children unattended in your vehicle or in the store, their safety comes first. A Shopping Center is no place for pets; leave them at home instead of in your car. If you see suspicious activity, report it immediately to store manager or police. Keep valuables such as wallets, purses or packages secure at all times. A purse left unzipped or on top of a shopping cart makes you an easy target. If your purse or wallet is lost or stolen, contact the credit card companies immediately! Your credit cards and checks will be used immediately by a thief. Never set packages down in a store unattended. This may create opportunity for a potential thief to pick up and leave with your purchases before you even know it. Never park in fire lanes or handicapped parking spaces. Even parking “Temporarily” causes safety hazards and inconveniences to those that are in need. Besides, you could be Fined. Educate your children about what to do if they get separated from you while shopping. When leaving the mall/store have your car keys ready in hand and use the buddy system. Either shop with a friend or have security walk you out. Shopping isn’t just fun shopping with friends, it’s safer.

Warning: Committing a crime in the city of Peoria WILL be hazardous to your freedom.

Home Tips: Keep the outside of your home well lit (front and back) Keep your windows and doors locked at all times. Large displays of valuables should not be visible through the windows and doors of your home. Don’t display gifts beneath the Christmas tree that can been seen from windows or doors. After the holidays, don’t advertise gifts received by the boxes left for garbage collection. Destroy boxes and place in a sealed, non-clear garbage bags. When leaving home for an extended period of time have a trusted neighbor member watch your house and pick up newspapers and mail. Contact the Police Department and sign up for a vacation watch. Mark or engrave valuables with your Arizona Driver’s license number (not your Social Security number), so they may be identified if recovered. Consider putting some Indoor/Outdoor lights on an automatic timer. Leave a radio or television on, giving the appearance the home is occupied.
