Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB)
Units
Crimes Against Persons Unit (CAP)
The CAP unit is primarily tasked with the follow-up investigation of homicides, robbery, assaults, arson, incidents of serious injury and death, and missing persons. The complexity of serious felony crimes and high liability requires an extensive amount of investigation and scene processing.
The Family Crimes Unit (FCU)
The FCU is tasked with the follow-up investigation of all crimes involving Domestic Violence, Crimes Against Children and Sex Crimes. These types of crimes are complex in nature and because of their complexity they require an extensive amount of investigation and specially trained detectives. The Family Crimes Unit has also developed a pro-active approach to Domestic Violence with the creation of Domestic Violence Warrant Round-Ups and the Outstanding Domestic Violence Suspect Arrest Program. The Family Crimes Unit works closely with Childhelp
USA and Child Protective Services (CPS) in the
protection of Peoria’s children. This unit is also
responsible for the tracking and community
notification of registered sex offenders living
within the city.
The Property Crimes Unit (PCU)
The PCU is primarily responsible for follow-up investigations of those crimes involving the loss of property. These types of crimes are usually thefts, burglaries, criminal damage, forgeries, fraud, identity theft, computer crimes and auto theft. The Property Crimes Unit is responsible for the bait car program, asset forfeiture, and pawnshop activities. The Detective assigned to the pawnshop detail performs quarterly compliance inspections on shops as well as monitoring their activity. Also assigned to the Property Crimes Unit is a PSO who is responsible for all runaway cases and is the police department liaison with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office on all felony arrest cases from Patrol Services Bureau.
The Peoria Street Crimes Unit
(SCU)
The Street Crimes Unit, consists of
officers who are highly self motivated and work in an undercover capacity. SCU detectives are responsible for investigating criminal activities including clandestine laboratories, trafficking in stolen property, all narcotic offenses and prostitution cases within the City of Peoria. SCU detectives also assist other units within the Department with surveillance and the apprehension of wanted fugitives. SCU detectives often work in conjunction with other valley police agencies, as well as the FBI, DEA, and the Bureau of Alcohol and Firearms.
Crime
Scene Technician
Crime Scene Technicians work with detectives to
process crime scenes by gathering evidence to ensure
the successful prosecution of criminal cases. PSO's
assigned to the property function oversee the
impounded property in accordance with Department
policy; order, maintain and distribute needed
equipment and supplies for field personnel; and
order and maintain the Department's fleet of
vehicles.
