Phase
II - Background
The City of Peoria
entered into a contract with Haydon Building Corporation for design and
construction of 25 acres of park improvements and a 51,000sq.ft.
recreation center.
The park
construction was completed in November 2006. The recreation center,
the veteran's memorial wall and the bridge that crosses New River are scheduled for
completion by Summer 2007.
The recreation center will be located in the park adjacent to the
lake, near the vehicular bridge over the lake will include two full gymnasiums, indoor walking/jogging track, a rock
climbing and bouldering wall, aerobics room, exercise room, weight room, child watch area
for youth eight years old and under, classrooms, locker rooms,
and a large meeting/conference room with outdoor patio that will
accommodate groups up to 300 people.
The Veteran's Memorial
Wall will pay tribute to the past, present and future veterans and their
families for the sacrifices they have made to protect our country, ideas
and virtues. The linear configuration of the memorial represents a
timeline progressing through the history of our country and projecting
into the future. The graphics that will be etched into the surface
will pay tribute not to the battles, but to the individuals that have
served our country.
If you or your
organization would like to be part of this tribute by donating the etching
of one or more spaces on the wall ($400 per space of 20" x 16"),
please contact Kirk Haines, Parks Manager at (623)773-7120.
