City Clerk Offers Tips for Passport Applications
Suggestions Can Ease Process Amid Surge in Requests
3/8/2007
Recent changes in
border control have led to a surge in the number of passport applications. The
State Department reports that, due to the unprecedented demand, travelers should
allow eight-to-10 weeks for routine passport processing and three-to-four weeks
for expedited service. The following items will help expedite the application
process at the Peoria City Clerk’s Office:
• Log on to
www.travel.state.gov and complete the application form ahead of time.
• Bring in a certified birth certificate, naturalization certificate or expired
passport.
• Bring valid proof of identification.
• The City Clerk’s Office accepts only checks or money orders. (No cash, debit
or credit cards.)
• Pictures can be taken on-site for a separate fee of $10.
The City Clerk’s Office is adjusting the hours during which it handles passport
applications. Effective March 19, passport hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The 3
p.m. cutoff should give office personnel time to process all of the day’s
applications before the close of business.
