Northern Avenue Closure Planned Near 99th Avenue
Installation of Sewer Pipe Forces Closure Starting Next Week
3/2/2007
(Peoria, Ariz.) March
2, 2007–
Installation of a large sewer pipe beneath Northern Avenue near 99th Avenue will
force a full closure of the road due to unstable soil conditions. The closure is
expected to last three to four weeks. During that period, Olive Avenue and
Glendale Avenue are recommended as alternate routes.
Normally, project engineers would maintain
traffic flow on a major roadway, however the depth of the excavation required
for this project combined with unstable soil in this area makes that an unsafe
proposition for both motorists and construction crews.
The massive 42-inch pipe will provide wastewater
capacity in the southern portion of Peoria, directing flow to the new Butler
Water Reclamation Facility, expected to begin operation in fall 2008.
A project hotline has been setup to provide
24-hour information: (602) 264-6416.
