'America's Most Wanted' Honors Peoria Police Detective
5/13/2009
Peoria Police Detective Bill Weigt has been named 2009’s All-Star by the television show “America’s Most Wanted.” The show’s host, John Walsh, notified Weigt by phone on Monday, May 11, during a scheduled television interview. Weigt was selected by the public in an online vote and will be presented the award this weekend at the NASCAR race in Charlotte, N.C. He was shot in 2005 while conducting a high-risk stop after a drug-related shooting and awoke three days later to learn that he’d be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Despite that, Weigt has continued to make a difference in his community as a motivational speaker and youth football coach, and continues to work as an investigator in the Violent Crimes Unit.
