Skatepark to Host Competitions Three Straight Weekends

The Rio Vista Skatepark
will be a hotbed of weekend competition for the rest of May.
• Sunday, May 17, is the Concrete Rodeo, a competition for local skateboarders
of all ages and abilities. There will be eight age groups for men and women. The
contest comprises two single runs and “jousting” (two skaters at once). Sign up
from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; the entry fee is $25 (cash only). The action will run
from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Helmets are required! For more information, go to

• Saturday, May 23, is a qualifier for the Amateur Inline Skating Championship.
There will be five age divisions for beginner and advanced skaters. Registration
is $30 and can be done at
www.inlineleague.com. Qualifying begins at noon, on-site registration at 9
a.m.
• Saturday, May 30, is Volcom Stone’s Wild in the Parks, a jam format local
skateboarding contest for all ages and abilities. Divisions are 14 and under; 15
and over; and ProAm. Division winners will be entered into the WITP Championship
at Rio Vista on Sept. 26 for a chance to win $20,000. This is a free event, and
participants will receive a shirt. For more information, visit
