Peoria's Celebration of Artists Exhibit

Showcase of Talent from Valley Artists


Peoria, Arizona, January 22, 2009 — The Peoria Arts Commission has announced a call for entries for its upcoming “Celebration of Artists” exhibit in March. The Celebration of Artists event is a juried art exhibit that showcases the talents of Valley artists and is open to the public from March 16 through March 26, 2009. A reception featuring refreshments and music by the Sunrise Mountain High School Orchestra will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2009.

Artists who are at least eighteen years of age may submit up to two art entries. All art entries shall be original artwork created in the past twelve months and consist of original paintings, drawings, sculptures and ceramics, mixed media, and photography. All paintings, photography, graphic arts, and two-dimensional mixed media must be framed and matted. Due to limited space, framed entries accepted into the exhibit must be 28 x 36 inches and smaller. Artists submitting sculptures and three-dimensional artwork accepted into the exhibit must provide pedestals or other appropriate displays for their artwork.

The award categories include Best of Show, Mayor's Award, Chairman's Award, Honorable Mention, and first, second, and third place awards in the categories of Watercolor, Oil, Acrylic, Drawing, Mixed Media, Photography, and 3-Dimensional (sculptures and ceramics). Cash awards will be given to artists for Best of Show and first place in each award category.

Award winning entries and submitted art will be on display weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Pine Room of City Hall from March 16 through March 26.
The Celebration of Artists Program is part of the Peoria Festival of Arts which will be held at the Peoria Municipal Complex on the weekend of March 13 -15. The Peoria Festival of the Arts brings a world class collection of fine arts for sale by artists. The festival will also feature live entertainment such as jazz, classical, blues, rock and world beat as well as wine tasting. The Peoria Library will also be holding its annual Library Fest on Saturday, March 14 from  9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will feature a Friends of the Library book sale and activities for the entire family. The Peoria Festival of the Arts is in association with the Arizona Art Alliance.
