Community Center Offers Seniors Tai Chi, Wii Bowling
1/7/2009
The Peoria Community Center offers senior adults opportunities to limber up during January.
• Instructor Mirella Tohatan is leading morning and evening sessions in tai chi, which uses stretching to reduce stress and gentle physical exercise to increase flexibility, energy, coordination and balance. The sessions are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Classes are under way, but it is not too late to register – the $30 fee will be prorated for a participant’s start date.
• The center will host a Wii Bowling Tournament from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23 – a great way to fill “spare” time and win prizes. Nintendo Wii is a console gaming system that allows players to simulate bowling by swinging a hand held remote. It mimics the motions used to bowl to create the experience. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 20.
To register for tai chi or Wii bowling, call 623-773-7436. The center is located at 8335 W. Jefferson St.
