Landscaping Classes Focus on Small Spaces, Xeriscape

Peoria is offering two free water conservation workshops the second week in October. "Landscaping for Small Spaces" will be at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, in the Point of View Room off the lobby of the city’s Development and Community Services Building, located on the northeast corner of 85th Avenue and Mountain View Road. Led by Kirti Mathura, a horticulturist with the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, this session will highlight ways to create an exciting landscape with interesting, yet appropriate plants for small spaces. "Xeriscape: Desert Fusion Garden Lecture and Walking Tour" will be Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to noon in the City Hall Pine Room and the garden itself. Participants will learn about the seven Xeriscape principles -- which, if used properly, ensure that landscapes are water efficient, yet creative and colorful.
