PEORIA, Ariz. (Oct. 1, 2008) – Andrew Granger, a
registered professional engineer with more than 13 years experience, is City
Manager Carl Swenson’s choice to fill Peoria’s vacant engineering director
position. The appointment is subject to City Council confirmation at the
Tuesday, Oct. 7, meeting.
Granger has spent the past eight years working
for the City of Phoenix, most recently as a deputy director in the Development
Services Department, where he managed nearly 150 employees in the civil
engineering, traffic engineering, residential building inspection and plan
review areas.
During that time, he helped Phoenix’s development
services area make significant improvements in quality, timeliness and customer
service. Previously, he was civil engineering supervisor, utility section
manager and civil engineer in the Phoenix Engineering Department.
Swenson cited Granger’s combination of personal
skill and professional experience as factors that stood out from the 22 other
engineers who participated in the nationwide recruitment.
“Andrew is a very good manager with a track
record of creating excellent working relationships,” said Swenson. “He has
strong technical skills and understands the Arizona development environment very
well.”
Granger has a master’s degree in business
administration from Arizona State University and a bachelor’s degree in civil
engineering from the University of Massachusetts.
As Peoria’s Engineering Director, he will oversee
53 employees in the Development Engineering, Capital Engineering and Traffic
Engineering divisions.
If confirmed by City Council, Granger will begin
on Oct. 27 at a starting salary of $132,000.
