8/27/2008
Peoria, Ariz. (Aug. 27, 2008) – Peoria ranks 75th
on a list of the nation’s wealthiest cities published this month by American
City Business Journals Inc., parent company of the Phoenix Business Journal.
Peoria is the only West Valley community in the
top 100. It ranks fourth among Arizona cities, behind Scottsdale (No. 8),
Gilbert (No. 51) and Chandler (No. 69). Tempe checks in at No. 99. The rankings
and related articles are online at
www.bizjournals.com/edit_special/69.html.
The newspaper chain ranked the relative affluence
of all cities, incorporated towns and unincorporated urban areas with 100,000
people or more. The strongest scores went to places with high income levels and
large inventories of expensive homes.
The study's raw data came from the Census
Bureau's 2006 American Community Survey, the most recent source for federal
statistics at the local level.
