Three Artists Selected as Semi-Finalists for Art Project
Art Inside the Rio Vista Recreation Center
8/15/2008
Peoria, Arizona, August 15, 2008 — Following a nationwide Call to Artists, a
selection committee has identified three artists to further compete in Peoria’s
Rio Vista Recreation Center Art project.
Forty-five artists responded to the Call to Artists and submitted letters of
interest, resumes, and photographs of their artwork in public locations. The
Call to Artists attracted artists from as far away as Germany. The Peoria Arts
Commission ultimately plans to award a $50,000 contract to one of the three
semi-finalists for the purpose of creating artwork on a large wall inside the
Rio Vista Recreation Center. The three semi-finalists are Daniel Roache of
Petosky, Michigan; Roberto Delgado of Los Angeles, California; and Valerie
Theberge of Mount Rainier, Maryland. The artists will receive $1,500 to further
refine their proposals for the project and to reimburse them for travel-related
costs.
After the artists present their proposals in October to a selection
committee, a picture of the winning proposal will be on public display at the
Rio Vista Recreation Center from November 17 through November 28. Then the
Peoria Arts Commission will recommend the award of a commission to one of the
artists to the Peoria City Council in December. It is anticipated that the
project will take between twelve to eighteen months to complete.
