City Food Drive Collects Enough for More Than 2,000 Meals
8/6/2008
A food drive conducted
by city employees the week of July 21 brought in the equivalent of 2,027 meals
for the St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance. Led by the Economic Development
Department, city workers placed posters and collection boxes at a number of
municipal sites. “Between the tightened economy and higher energy prices, a lot
of families are really feeling pinched,” said Maria Laughner, a
business-development specialist. “This food drive was just a small way for all
of us to give back to the community.” The leading source of donations (65
percent) was the Information Technology Department, which held its own internal
contest.
