City Clerk Validates Hunt Recall Petition

PEORIA, Ariz. (June 24, 2008) – City Clerk Mary Jo Kief on Monday officially filed the recall petition (REC 08-01) against Councilmember Vicki Hunt, who represents the Acacia District. Kief certified 252 valid signatures, more than the 214 required for a recall election.

Pursuant to A.R.S. § 19-208, Hunt has until 5 p.m. on June 30 to tender her resignation. If she does not resign, the recall election will be held within the Nov 4 general election. All qualified electors in the Acacia District will be eligible to vote in the recall.

Hunt’s name will be placed automatically on the Nov. 4 ballot. Additionally, Hunt has the right to prepare, and have printed on the Nov. 4 ballot, a statement defending her official conduct. The deadline for filing that statement is 5 p.m. on July 3.
