Peoria Arts Commission Initiates Annual Arts Grant Program
2008-2009 Funding Now Available
2/4/2008
Peoria, Ariz. (Feb. 4, 2008) — This week, the
Peoria Arts Commission officially kicks off its annual Peoria Arts Grant Program
for 2008.
The Performing Arts Grant Program was developed in 1997 for the purpose of
increasing the number of arts opportunities available to Peoria residents. Under
the program, qualified nonprofit organizations can apply for up to $3,000 in
project grant assistance for performing arts or visual arts. The projects must
take place in Peoria and demonstrate a direct benefit to the community. During
2008, a total of $30,000 will be made available through the grant program.
Applications must be submitted no later than April 4, 2008, to be considered for
grants.
According to Linda Ballance, chair of the Peoria Arts Commission, “The grant
program illustrates how grants can really make a difference in increasing arts
opportunities in the community. Since 1997 the Peoria Arts Commission has
awarded approximately $280,000 in grants to organizations to promote the arts in
Peoria,” said Ballance. Last year’s grant recipients included Peoria Fine Arts
Association, Desert Harbor Elementary School, Peoria Boys and Girls Club,
Centennial High School, and Theater Works.
The Peoria Arts Commission receives funding for the grants and other programs as
part of its annual budget appropriation from the Peoria City Council. The grant
application can be obtained from the Peoria Arts Commission’s website at
www.peoriaaz.gov/arts. For more
information about the grant program, please contact Cultural Arts Coordinator
Andre Licardi, at 623-773-5193.
