Dolly Sanchez Easter Egg Hunt a West Valley Tradition

For 37 years, the Sanchez family and the City of Peoria have worked together to provide an Easter egg hunt for the entire West Valley to enjoy.

Dolly Sanchez wanted a fun event to allow all children in Peoria the opportunity to enjoy an Easter egg hunt. That was in 1976. Today, thanks to Dolly’s vision, and a lot of time and energy from the Sanchez family, the Dolly Sanchez Memorial Easter Egg Hunt is one of the largest events of its kind in Arizona. Last year more than 8,000 people came out to the Peoria Sports Complex to race after free candy and enjoy “Mr. and Mrs. Bunny.”

This year’s event is on Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to Noon at the Peoria Sports Complex. Activities for families include “Cottontail Lane,” which will be open for children to participate in carnival games and fun arts & crafts activities. Children can also watch a puppet show, visit animals at the petting zoo, and take a train ride, and jump on the inflatables. “Mr. and Mrs. Bunny” will be on-hand to start the candy hunts and take pictures with the children.

Gates open at 8:00 am at Peoria Sports Complex, located at 16101 N. 83rd Ave just south of Bell Road. Parking and admission is free with a donation of canned food to benefit St. Mary’s Westside Food Bank Alliance. Food and beverage concessions will be available for purchase including a special $5 kids’ meal (hot dog, small soda and chips) for those 12 and under. For more information call 623-773-7137 or visit us on the web at www.peoriaaz.gov/specialevents.
