Road Repair Projects to Affect Traffic Along 83rd Avenue
The City of Peoria Public Works-Utilities Department (PWU) is set to begin construction projects in January which will affect traffic on 83rd Avenue between Peoria Avenue and Thunderbird Road.

The City of Peoria Public Works-Utilities Department (PWU) is set to begin construction projects in January which will affect traffic on 83rd Avenue between Peoria Avenue and Thunderbird Road.

The PWU is using a contractor to repair streets in the Varney Park area. This work is scheduled for completion by March 2013.

A Community Services Project to widen the sidewalk on 83rd Avenue at the Peoria High School begins in January. The anticipated completion date is April 2013. There will be traffic barricades and restrictions set up to allow the contractor access to the sidewalk. Drivers should use caution when driving through this area.

In January, the repair and replacement of the asphalt surface of 83rd Avenue from Peoria Avenue north to Thunderbird Road will begin. The first step in the repairs will be the full depth removal and replacement of several sections of the road that have failed. Once completed, the contractor will mill the edge of the road and apply a two inch thick mat of new asphalt. A second contractor will be placing a micro-seal over another section of 83rd Avenue between Cactus Road north to Windrose Avenue The new striping plan for the entire segment includes new bike lanes from Peoria Avenue to Thunderbird Road on both sides of 83rd Avenue. Allwork should be complete by May 2013. The traffic control set up during construction will allow for only one lane of traffic in each direction and will restrict left turns. Please use caution when driving through the area.

Other projects being done in support of the paving repairs include the installation of video detection equipment at Cholla Street and Shangri La Avenue under the Traffic Signal Program. In addition, a video detection system is being installed at Sweetwater Avenue . This work will begin in January and be complete by March 2013.
