National Wildlife Group Recognizes Desert Fusion Garden
8/29/2007
The National Wildlife
Federation has certified Peoria’s Desert Fusion Garden as an official Wildlife
Habitat site. The garden, part of the Peoria Municipal Campus, demonstrates the
seven principles of low-water-use landscaping, or Xeriscape. The Virginia-based
organization says it recognized the garden because it “attracts a variety of
birds, butterflies and other wildlife while helping to protect the local
environment.” It has certified more than 75,000 sites since 1973. Last year, the
garden won a “Best of the West” award from the Western Maricopa Coalition (WESTMARC)
and an Award of Merit from Valley Forward.
