Fire-Training Program in Contention for National Honor
Battalion Chief Academy Among 35 Finalists for National League of Cities Award
8/22/2007
Peoria's Regional
Battalion Chief Academy, a program that builds the management and leadership
skills of senior firefighting officials from around Arizona, has been named one
of 35 finalists for the National League of Cities’ 2007 Awards for Municipal
Excellence. The academy brings together new and prospective chief fire officer
candidates to explore best practices, technology, personnel management and
leadership. Peoria Fire Chief Bob McKibben developed the 10-day program and
subsequently worked with Glendale Community College on a stringent academic
curriculum for the academy, which has become an accredited, three-hour course
through GCC. Winners of the 2007 Awards for Municipal Excellence will be
announced in November.
