On December 12th, more than 200 Peoria students will get to attend the
Phoenix Suns game thanks to the Peoria Police Officers Association. These
students are apart of the S.W.A.G. program (Students With Aspiring Goals). The
program brings together high school students as mentors to middle school
students to help them set and achieve high academic and interscholastic goals.
Currently 40 high school students and 200 middle school students participate in
the program. Those students will be joined by school staff and 20 Peoria Police
Officers for this fun night out at the Suns game.
Students will begin their night out with a fun dinner at the Peoria Sports
Complex where they will get a chance to come together and get outfitted in a
SWAG t-shirt. From there students will go to the U.S. Airways Arena to watch the
Suns team warm up before their game against the Memphis Grizzlies. One select
student from each school will get the honor of standing outside the tunnel to
give the Suns players high-fives as they come onto the court.
This special night for the students is brought together by the fund-raising
efforts of the P.P.O.A., along with support of the Suns Organization, the Peoria
Police Department, and The Peoria Unified School District.
Media interested in covering this event are invited to join the students at the
Peoria Sports Complex from 3:30-4:30p.m. where students and PPOA members will be
available for interviews. Credentialed media are also welcome to cover the
festivities inside the arena starting at 5p.m.
