The city of Peoria wants to remind residents that
not all unwanted items should be placed in the trash. City staff schedules
several collection events throughout the year to ensure your safety and that of
the environment. Here are three upcoming events taking place at The Home Depot
Parking Lot, 25650 N. Lake Pleasant Pkwy (at Happy Valley Road; enter from
Yearling Road):
• Shred-A-Thon
Thursday, Oct. 25, 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Keep your documents out of the hands of identity thieves. Bring your
confidential and high-security items to the Shred-A-Thon, sponsored by the city
of Peoria and Maricopa County. County residents can shred up to five boxes/bags
of documents.
• Prescription Take Back
Thursday, Oct. 25, 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Many people are faced with having to dispose of unused or unwanted medicine at
home. It is not safe to put them down the drain or to flush them down the
toilet. Recent EPA findings indicate that some of these pharmaceuticals are
polluting soil and ground water.
• Household Hazardous Waste
Saturday, Nov. 3, 8 a.m. to noon
In an effort to reduce the amount of hazardous materials deposited into area
landfills, the city of Peoria offers several household hazardous waste
collection events each year. Accepted items include: car batteries, appliances,
paint, electronics, gasoline, and pesticides. For a complete list, visit
