Peoria Sustainable University Is Resource for Residents, Businesses
10/4/2012
PEORIA, Ariz. (Oct. 4, 2012) – The city of Peoria is
launching a new program to help further its environmentally-friendly demeanor.
Sustainable University - or Sustainable U as it is more commonly called - is a
resource for residents and local businesses to learn about being "green."
"The Peoria City Council recently adopted a sustainability action plan that
outlines the city's dedication to this effort," said Deputy City Manager Susan
Daluddung, "and Sustainable University fits right in as a community outreach and
educational program."
The University - a website with a list of workshops and classes - helps the
public go to one place to learn about a variety of green topics. Currently
offered are: a bicycle safety workshop; a recycling workshop; and several water
conservation classes.
"We’d like to expand the program to become a series of courses taken over
several months" said Lisa Estrada, intergovernmental affairs coordinator and the
program's lead. "Right now, it's a combination of existing and new classes the
city offers. We are excited about the positive impact this program can have on
Peoria.”
Information about Sustainable University is available at
