The Peoria City Council subcommittee on Sustainable Development and Public
Services is asking for community participation and feedback at its next meeting
on June 6, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Pine Room at Peoria City Hall. There are
three (3) topics on the agenda for review and discussion: (a) Not-for-Profit and
Housing Advisory Board; (b) Old Town Indicators; and (c) Major General Plan
Amendment pertaining to Senate Bill 1598 and aggregate mining.
The first item is a discussion and review pertaining to the current authority
and structure for the existing Council Not-for-Profit and Housing Board
Subcommittee. This body is responsible for making recommendations (to the City
Council) on local and federal grant requests from not-for-profit agencies and
acting as an advisory board on matters pertaining to public housing.
The second item pertains to proposed indicators to assess the success of
strategic actions and policies in Old Town Peoria. Some of the indicators will
relate to specific economic development initiatives while others will be
area-wide barometers. The indices will help provide a “snapshot” in time and
help assess the health and vitality of Old Town over time.
Finally, the third item is a discussion of Senate Bill 1598 – signed into law by
Governor Brewer on April 28, 2011 – pertaining to aggregate mining and how
mining operations are represented within the General Plan.
