New River Trail Completion Nets Users 19-mile Path
Grand Opening on Saturday, Oct. 15
10/4/2011
Hikers, cyclists, and equestrians are invited to
attend the grand opening of Peoria’s latest addition to its collection of prized
trails on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 8 a.m. to noon. Five “comfort stations” will be
set up along the 9.5-mile length (nearly 20 miles round trip) trail, which runs
continuously – and without having to cross vehicular traffic – from Olive Avenue
to Williams Road. Cyclists can have their bikes checked, tires filled with air,
and possibly receive a free helmet at the stations. Folks needing to drive to
the trail, which runs from southwest Peoria to the northeast, can park at Rio
Vista Community Park, 8866 W. Thunderbird Road. For more information, call
623-773-7137 or visit
