'Paving the Way' Film Eyes Latino Laborers in Deep South

The April presentation
of Peoria’s “Paving the Way” film series is the 2007 movie Mississippi
Chicken, about a Central American family in the deep South. Questions of
race, workers' rights and exploitation form the crux of this documentary about
Latin American immigrants living in rural Mississippi, where poultry plants
promise jobs but little else. The screening, presented by the Peoria Diversity
Committee, will be Wednesday, April 27, at 6 p.m. in the Willow Room of the
Peoria Main Library.
