Dispose of Old, Unwanted Rx's Sept. 25 at Sports Complex

The Peoria Police Department will collect expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for disposal at the Peoria Sports Complex on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The service is free and anonymous; no questions asked. The event is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug “Take-Back” initiative, which seeks to prevent increased pill abuse and theft. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are increasing at alarming rates, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
