Peoria Makes Big Splash at AZ Water Conference
5/11/2010
The city brought home three statewide awards from the annual AZ Water Association conference, which took place May 5-7 in Glendale. Philip Glass received the Instrumentation Technician of the Year award for the leadership and dedication he brought to the Utilities technology team. Roger Carr from the Butler Water Reclamation Facility was named Wastewater Operator of the Year. Carr led a team that completed required membrane slack adjustments, saving the city $50,000. The Beardsley Water Reclamation Facility was named Large Wastewater Plant of the Year. By optimizing processes, labor and spending, the Beardsley team managed to save Peoria more than $90,000 a year. Finally, Peoria received nine safety awards at the conference, and city officials presented or co-presented six briefings on topics ranging from employee-generated ideas for cost savings to lessons learned from operating the state-of-the-art Butler facility.
