Peoria is celebrating the 30th anniversary of National Parks and Recreation Month.
During the month, we will offer various activities and a contest to commemorate this special anniversary.

Share Your Best Park Photos and Enter to Win Prizes
We want to see you in action in a City of Peoria park or recreation facility! Take pictures, send them to us and be entered into a prize drawing. Enter up to three photos. Pictures may include people, dogs and landscape images. Enter by emailing email@example.com with Photo Contest in the subject line, and include your name, phone number and the park location or facility. Submit photos no later than Friday, July 31. Prizes include annual passes to Rio Vista Recreation Center, Peoria Sports Complex tickets and VIP tickets for signature festivals. Photos entered may be used by the City of Peoria to promote the City, and all entries will become and remains property of the City of Peoria and may be used without permission or credit.

With more than 35 neighborhood parks, two community parks with ball fields, large playgrounds, splash pads and urban fishing lakes, and more than 25 miles of hiking and biking trails we offer residents a wide variety of recreation opportunities to be active, healthy and happy.
Giving Away 30 Rio Vista Guest passes
Rio Vista Recreation Guest passes will be given to the first 30 people who request it in honor of this month. For those who come and play, participants will also be entered into a drawing to win a free 3-month family pass. Rio Vista Recreation Center, 8866-A W. Thunderbird Rd., is a state-of-the art fitness facility offering full-service recreation amenities including a workout area, gymnasium, two racquetball courts, one 25-foot-tall climbing wall, a 13-foot-tall bouldering wall, onsite children’s day care and a teen room.

Great recreation? Of course! Just ask a resident – 88% of which rated recreational opportunities in Peoria as “excellent” or “good” in a 2013 survey. Read it all at www.peoriaaz.gov/citizensurvey.
The Recreation Division offers a wide variety of programs, activities and classes for children, teens, adults, seniors and people with a disability. Offerings include: after school programs, summer programs, aquatics programs, sports, teen programs, adaptive recreation programs, senior programs, outdoor recreation and special interest classes. These programs are offered at several City run facilities including the Peoria Community Center, Peoria Pool, Centennial Pool, Sunrise Pool and Family Center, various City parks and the Rio Vista Recreation Center. The Recreation Center is a versatile, family friendly facility which has amenities to promote healthy lifestyles.
This division plans and conducts the maintenance of city parks, most right of way, trails, open space and most retention basins. It also designs and develops the Department’s Capital Improvement Plan, performs plan reviews for new planned area developments and oversees graffiti removal throughout the City. The Main Library and Sunrise Mountain Library offer adult, teen and youth programs and services such as Storytimes, Summer Reading Programs, Computer Classes, Teen Advisory Groups, Book Clubs, and special events. They also offer free Wi-Fi, free public computers, a variety of databases, access to free e-books, and interlibrary loan services. In addition to great book collections and free DVD, CD and audio books, they now offer free music downloads and a new language database. The City of Peoria hosts many exciting special events throughout the year for our community. Whether it's the annual 4th of July All American Festival or the Halloween Monster Bash in October, there is plenty to see and do at each special event for the entire family.
Peoria Sports Complex, contains 13 full sized baseball fields and is home to the Seattle Mariners and the San Diego Padres for Spring Training and year round player development. The complex hosts various baseball tournaments, concerts, arts and crafts festivals, car shows, corporate events and other community events.
