Intergovernmental and Council Affairs
Peoria’s Intergovernmental and Council Affairs (IGA) is primarily responsible for working with other jurisdictions at the local, county, regional, state legislative and federal levels of government. The IGA advocates the City’s positions at these levels of governance and also helps coordinate city issues with such regional agencies and organizations as Maricopa Association of Governments, League of Arizona Cities and Towns, Luke West Valley Council, Greater Phoenix Economic Council, Westmarc, and many others. The IGA coordinates the City’s legislative and other special programs, and takes on special assignments as directed by the City Manager’s Office. The IGA works closely with the Mayor and Council on a multitude of issues relating to intergovernmental and regional affairs.
Much of what Peoria does as a municipality is influenced by the legislative actions of other jurisdictions such as the county, state and federal governments. Among the priorities of the IGA is to make certain that Peoria is represented in the development of policies that affect it. It is also the goal of this office to better inform the public about these issues, including promoting an understanding of how to follow and get involved issues originating outside Peoria borders.
