In an effort to develop alternative energy sources for the city, Peoria officials sought federal stimulus dollars to install wind turbines at Lake Pleasant. The two turbines went up on May 13, to take advantage of the lake's breezes. Peoria energy officials hope to cut energy costs at the fire station by 40 to 50 percent using the wind source.

The City is utilizing an energy monitoring device known as the TED 5000, which provides data to a live dashboard showing the current real-time kilowatt hour usage of the pilot wind turbines, and also shows the current time, kilowatt hours used per month, and average daily kilowatt usage.
This allows City staff to view the pilot wind turbine’s energy consumption on their computer or mobile devices.
