Youth Citizen Police Academy
What’s it all about?
This June, the Peoria Police Department Police Activities League will present the Youth Citizen Police Academy to help build relationships with kids entering the 7th and 8th grades. This program is intended to introduce children entering junior high school to what the Peoria Police Department is all about. This program is FREE, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
All participants will receive a T-Shirt and certificate upon completion of the coursework. On the final day, students will get to tour the police station and have lunch.
What will be taught at this Academy?
The course work will be similar to our adult citizen’s academy, however, for the kids, there will be more hands on activities and more fun!
• Alcohol and DUI/Vision Goggles
• Arizona Law
• Arrest Procedures
• Crime Scenes Investigation
• Dangerous Drug Education/Prevention
• Equipment Demos
• Gun Safety
• Internet /Social Media safety
• Traffic Stops
• Team Building
NOTE - Children will not shoot firearms. Some physical and hands on activity will be encouraged.
This academy is open to boys and girls entering 7th or 8th grade in Fall of 2014. Students must reside in Peoria or attend a school within the Peoria city limits, and not have attended a previous academy. There is no academic requirement; however, good behavior is required at all times! This is not a boot camp or program for rebellious teens. This free program requires a parental/guardian permission slip and waiver, which is included in the application packet. Transportation to and from the school is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
