“Stewie” the Duck Learns to Swim
	April 28, 2006 - Peoria, AZ – During the month of May, Peoria Fire Fighters are going 
to school for water safety. They will be visiting local schools to read Stewie the Duck Learns to 
Swim and share important water safety information with the children.  Following their visit the 
fire fighters will donate the book to the school library. Our goal is to not have a single child 
drowning in the City of Peoria for 2006.
	This year’s water safety theme is Splash into Safety.  Educational materials are being 
distributed to local merchants to pass along to their customers throughout the month of May.  
The campaign will culminate in a FREE swim and safety day at the Centennial High School 
pool, sponsored by the Peoria Firefighter’s Charities and the Peoria Fire Department.
	The first 250 children to arrive at the pool will have a chance to win prizes, including the 
grand prize of an IPod!  Chick-Fil-A is also providing coupons for 400 free kids’ meals.
	Stewie the Duck is a water safety book for children ages 2-6.  It was written in 
remembrance of 21-month old Stew Leonard III, who drowned in 1989 while on a family
