Recall Alert U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 October 19, 2006 Alert #07-503 Dux Interiors Protective Mattress Covers Recalled for Fire Hazard The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of Product: Protective Mattress Covers (PMC) Units: About 37,000 Importer: Dux Interiors Inc., of New York, N.Y. Hazard: The terry cloth PMCs, which were made to fit over the Dux top pads, do not meet the federal standard for flammability under the Flammable Fabrics Act. They pose a risk of burn injury to consumers if exposed to smoldering or burning cigarettes. Incidents/Injuries: No incidents or injuries have been reported. Description: The recalled PMCs are natural-colored terry cloth made of 100 percent cotton, and come in twin, full, queen, and king sizes to cover top pads made by Dux. Sold at: PMCs were available solely through Dux-owned stores and licensed outlets from January 1999 through April 2006. The PMC was provided at no additional cost to each customer who purchased a Dux mattress pad and mattress set. Manufactured in: Portugal Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled PMCs and discard them. Dux Interiors is directly contacting consumers who received PMC covers with their mattress purchases.
