Northern Parkway
Project
Description
The Northern Parkway is a planned major highway project that
extends 12.5 miles from SR 303/Estrella Freeway (Loop 303) to US
60 (Grand Avenue) and will replace Northern Avenue for a portion
of this distance. The proposed Northern Parkway will be an
enhanced arterial street with grade-separated intersections at
major cross streets to eliminate the major traffic signals on
Northern Parkway. The resulting roadway would have twice
the traffic-carrying capacity of a typical arterial and would
enable traffic to flow at average speeds of 45 mile per hour
(mph) as compared to typical arterials with average speeds
between 25 and .

Project
Status
The Northern Parkway, as approved by the voters
in the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), is planned to have
construction begin in 2015; however, the Cities of Peoria, El
Mirage and Glendale along with Maricopa County, are discussing
acceleration to have construction completed in 2015 for the
portion of the project from Loop 303 to Loop 101. An
Inter-governmental Agreement (IGA) must be approved by the Mayor
and Council.
The Design
Concept Report is being finalized (this is basically 30% plans).
The
project plans are available for review at the Peoria Engineering
office, located at 9875 N. 85th Avenue, Peoria, AZ
